Tips for Hiring a Reputable Plastering Contractor in SWFL

Tips for Hiring a Reputable Plastering Contractor in SWFL…Plastering may look like it’s not hard to do, but the truth is that a plaster installer needs both skill and experience to get the job done right.

If you’re looking for some advice that will help you hire the best local plastering company, you’ve come to the right blog.

First things first

Much like when you need to hire a roofer or garage door installer, there are several things you’ll want to ask a plaster contractor before you sign the work order.

Be sure to ask if they’ve completed any projects that are similar to what you’re looking for. If so, do they have photos? Will their prior clients be willing to serve as references?

Second, ask if they specialize in a particular type of plastering. Examples would include rendering, lime plastering or coving.

Third, ask how long the company has been in business, if they’re accredited with the Better Business Bureau and whether they use their own people or if they farm out work to subcontractors. Pro tip: it’s always better to work with a company that doesn’t subcontract.

Just say “no” to DIY

Although you may be tempted to do this type of work yourself, we’d strongly advise you step away from the YouTube videos and contact a professional. Why? Because poorly done plaster work will cost a lot more to fix, which means you’ll wind up paying a lot more of the job in the long run.

Getting quotes

If a plastering company is willing to give you a quote over the phone, sign unseen, this should be seen as a red flag.  A reputable company will want to see your property, so they can get an idea as to the size and scope of the project. This will better allow them to make some recommendations and inform you of your options.

Remember, it’s always best to get three to four quotes before you decide which company to go with.

The deposit

You may or may not be asked to pay a deposit, but this will all depend on the size of the project. If you are asked to pay a deposit, the industry standard is 25 percent. If someone is asking for a lot more than that up front, it’s OK to hang up and call someone else.

Be wary of unlicensed / uninsured contractors

Lastly, you’ll want to make sure the company you do hire is both licensed and insured. If you hire an unlicensed and/or uninsured company, you could run into some pretty big (and rather unpleasant) problems down the road. It’s not at all unreasonable to ask a plastering company to provide you with a copy of their insurance documents.
