25 Apr Things to consider before choosing a stucco installer
If you’re considering an upgrade to the exterior of your home, stucco is an excellent choice. In addition to being durable and long-lasting, stucco can do wonders for your home’s curb appeal.
Yet when it comes to choosing a stucco installer, you’ll want to be diligent. Below are just a few of the things you’ll want to consider before you decide who to go with.
Get multiple bids
If you’ve ever re-roofed your home, you understand the importance of getting several bids from several contractors. The same holds true if you need to hire a stucco installer.
Be sure to ask each company whether they’re licensed and insured. You’ll also want to ask how long they’ve been in buisness and whether they’ve completed jobs similar to yours in the past. You should also ask if they have photos of prior stucco installs and whether they’d be willing to provide you with references.
The cheapest bid isn’t always the best bid
When you receive the bids, you’ll want to look at each one comprehensively. Does it include a full breakdown of costs, including labor and materials? Does it include information about a workmanship / materials warranty?
Does the bid include the company’s address and contact information? If the bid is sparse and doesn’t contain a lot of information, this may be a red flag.
Once you’ve narrowed down your choices, you’ll want to ask some additional questions. Ask if the company will need to pull any permits before the job can be started, and if yes, how long they expect that will take. You’ll also what to ask if they use their own people or if they farm out work to subcontractors. As a general rule of thumb, it’s best to choose a stucco company that sends its own people to job sites.
Lastly, ask if they’ll require an advance deposit and if so, how much the deposit will be. If a company is asking you to pay up front, in full, in cash, that’s also a red flag.
