Tips to Choose a Reliable Stucco Installer

If you’re considering adding stucco to your home, the most important first step to take involves finding a reputable stucco installer. Not all companies are created alike, so you’ll want to do your due diligence.

Get multiple quotes

Much like when you need to reroof your home, you’ll want to contact several local stucco companies to ask them to send out a representative to provide you with a written quote.  All quotes should be in writing and each one should include a breakdown of costs, including materials and labor.

If you see something you don’t understand, ask the representative to explain it to you.  If the person you’re speaking with is reluctant to put anything in writing, or they’re trying to use high-pressure sales tactics to get you to commit to the work, this should be seen as a big red flag.

Ask about licensing

When you hire a contractor to do work at your home, you’ll want to make sure you’re protected. Never, ever hire an unlicensed and/or uninsured installer. Although unlicensed companies will often undercut their competition on price, the risks associated with hiring unlicensed / uninsured stucco installers are numerous.

Ask about subcontractors

This is another important point to consider.  As a rule of thumb, it’s always best to hire companies that use their own people. If they send subcontractors, you can never be sure what you’re going to get. In-house employees tend to pay better attention to detail and they tend to do better work.

Ask for references

When you’ve narrowed down your selection pool, ask each company to provide you with the names of several local references who have had similar work done. References are an invaluable source of information, as they’ll be able to provide you with information relating to the quality of work that was performed and the levels of customer service they received.

Check their online presence

Lastly, check to see if the company has a website, social media presence and/or listings on Angie’s List, Home Advisor or Yelp. Reviews on these websites can also provide you with the information you’ll need to make an informed hiring decision.
